Boeing has selected Honeywell (Hall 1, L18) to supply the avionics and mechanical systems for the new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and Freighter.
The avionics package will include Honeywell’s new Mark V enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS) with vertical situation display, the air data inertial reference system (ADIRS) as well as a new flight management system (FMS) and mode control display.

The mechanical systems will include a new leading edge flap drive (LEFD), the nitrogen generation system (NGS) for tank inerting and the weight and balance system.
Chad Cundiff, Honeywell’s vice president, crew interface products, says: “The new FMS includes future air navigation system (FANS) and required navigation performance (RNP) capabilities.

“This will be ready to go when the RNP environment comes online and the new navigation database will be good for 20-30 years. The system will also be available for Boeing 747-400 retrofit too,” Cundiff concludes.Boeing has selected Honeywell (Hall 1, L18) to supply the avionics and mechanical systems for the new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and Freighter.
