Bombardier's Challenger 605 business jet has been certified by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to land at London City airport.

The approval applies to all Challenger 604s and 605s registered in European Union states and Canada.

Bombardier says a service bulletin will be available for existing aircraft owners later this year, detailing the crew certifications and costs for operational approval to use the 5.5º approach to London City's 1,319m (4,327ft) runway.

European and Canadian certification was obtained after Bombardier completed 50h of flight testing in the USA, including 200 steep-approach landings, followed by an operational evaluation of the Challenger 605 at London City in February that involved eight approaches.

Bombardier's latest European customer for the new 605 is Munich-based charter operator Air Independence, which has ordered three of the large business jets for delivery between October 2009 and February 2010. Air Independence operates two 604s and a Challenger 800.
