Headline Bombardier announced sales of regional and business jets to Japan and Singapore yesterday worth a total $68 million.

SIA will exercise options for two additional Learjet 45 aircraft bringing the total number of Learjet aircraft now bought by the island's flag carrier to 12.

Regional aircraft sales to Japan were also announced. Japan Airlines (JAL) has placed a firm order for a 50-seat CRJ200 on behalf of its Hiroshima-based subsidiary J-AIR. A follow-on order from All Nippon for two 56-seat Q300s will increase the airline's total Q300 fleet to five. These will fly from Tokyo Haneda to the Japanese islands.

Mike Fahey, newly appointed regional vice-president of sales for Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, remains upbeat about sales potential for business aircraft in the region. Announcing the Learjet sales, he talks about projections for the coming five years. He believes Bombardier will sell 100 throughout Asia-Pacific in the next half decade which would more than double the current number of Bombardier business aircraft active in the region.

He's positive that following the introduction of the first Global Express to Hong Kong fresh orders will emerge. "We all know that once you get the first one in, others follow," he says.
