CRASH PROBE
The US National Transportation Safety Board has begun an investigation into a crash on 2 June involving a Bombardier Learjet 35. The business jet, en route from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, crashed into a cove within metres of the runway at Groton-New London airport, Connecticut, killing the two pilots. Three passengers escaped with minor injuries. Weather was reported as 3km (2 miles) visibility in mist with broken clouds at 100ft (30m). The aircraft was reportedly being operated by International Jet Charter of Norfolk, Virginia. Two pilots of a Learjet 35A were killed three years ago on approach to Groton-New London.
SERVICE SCHEME
Adam Aircraft and Jet Support Services (JSSI) have introduced a tip-to-tail hourly maintenance cost guarantee programme for the Adam A500 piston twin and A700 very light jet. The new maintenance contracts span three or five years following the aircraft’s purchase. The A500 programme will cover the airframe, Teledyne Continental TSIO-550E engine and accessories. The A700 programme will cover the airframe and accessories.
HELICOPTER CRASH
A Bell 407 helicopter recently acquired by Indian charter operator Deccan Aviation crashed moments after take off on 5 June near Jakku, Bangalore. There were no passengers on board and the crew were unhurt.
