BIOJET Mitch Hawkins, head of the California biofuels company, hailed a fourmillion barrel contract for its jatropha-based aviation fuel as "by far the largest sale of bio jet fuel to date". BioJet's synthetic paraffinic kerosene, or Bio-SPK, is expected to be certificated for commercial use by the American Society for Testing and Materials International by the end of 2010. Hawkins reckons demand for aviation biofuels will exceed 280 million barrels annually.

Bad Week

AIRCELL The North American in-flight connectivity specialist may have a winner with its Gogo air-to-ground system - now installed on 550 aircraft with seven US carriers and achieving more than 5% per week paid internet session growth - but it is still having to lay off an unspecified number of workers to "right-size" itself for future growth. Aircell will notsay if management jobs are at risk, but it does hope to seal a new financing deal by the end of October.
