VIRGIN AMERICA The US Department of Transportation has ruled the carrier's US citizenship will remain intact, as it has agreed to ensure new capital investments from entities other than Virgin Group - which owns 25% - can be obtained to uphold rules dictating that US citizens hold 75% of a carrier's voting stock. The DoT dismissed petitions by Alaska Airlines and an aircraft mechanics union for a public inquiry into Virgin America's citizenship.

AIR FREIGHT Just in case anybody was not sure, 2009 was officially the worst-ever year for the air freight market, according to fresh analysis by consultancy Air Cargo Management Group. Double-digit traffic falls begun in the fourth quarter of 2008 continued for a full 12 months. "Traffic levels early in 2009 were no higher than they had been in 2000, suggesting the industry had lost a full decade of growth," says ACMG managing director Robert Dahl.
