ALGAE Shortages of biofuel feedstock have delayed some recent alternative fuel trial flights, but now Airbus parent EADS and the Singapore government's Agency for Science, Technology and Research are to collaborate on research into the feasibility of microalgae as a feedstock. Says EADS: "As a systems architect of airplanes, it is our responsibility to foster research on biofuels, even if we are not directly involved in the energy business."

AIR BERLIN The carrier's maintenance chief Wolfgang Kurth is quitting over a disagreement on strategy. Kurth took the job less than two years ago as Air Berlin sought to consolidate engineering operations after acquiring carriers LTU and DBA. Air Berlin says Kurth played a "major part" in improving the efficiency of the division, but that he and the company's board have "differences of opinion" on its strategic positioning and integration of his division with Air Berlin.
