ANTI-FLYING LOBBY The UK has a new government and while it remains to be seen just what a coalition of Conservatives and Liberal Democrats will do in power, one thing they will not proceed with is a third runway at London Heathrow. Both parties were pledged to reverse the Labour government's controversial decision to bulldoze local villages for tarmac and are keeping their promises. New runways at Gatwick and Stansted will also be rejected.

Bad week

Virgin Atlantic

VIRGIN ATLANTIC As whistleblower, the carrier had won immunity from penalties in a fuel surcharges price-fixing case involving itself and British Airways. But after the late discovery of "a substantial volume of electronic material" scuppered a criminal case against four current and former BA executives, the UK Office of Fair Trading says it will be reviewing Virgin's role in the affair, which "may have potential consequences for [its] immunity from penalties".
