SOBRIETY Russian flag carrier Aeroflot is citing a notable reduction in the number of on-board incidents fuelled by intoxication, after banning alcohol sales in the economy-class cabin on some flights. Aeroflot, which stopped distributing free alcoholic beverages in early 2006, started testing the tighter restriction on particular services in February and has since seen a "significant fall" in the number of alcohol-related behavioural violations.

AIR MINAS The Belo Horizonte, Brazil-based operator of six Embraer EMB-120 turboprops made its last regular flight, citing a "competitive environment for regional airlines [that] has changed a lot in the last few years", making it "impossible to compete" as average fares have dropped constantly to "levels impossible to match". Promised government support programmes also "have not materialised". The airline hopes to relaunch after a "deep restructuring".
