Business Jet Seats, a "charter-the-seat" business jet service, has launched service in 215 US markets, promising to slash traditional whole-aircraft charter costs by 50%.

The company, created by former Avantair shareholder Alfred Repetti, licensed simulation and back-office tools developed by air-taxi company Earthjet.

It has an exclusive arrangement with CharterX, an online exchange for aircraft charter services, to offer per-seat charter options to customers searching for private charter services.

Earthjet told Flight International that the company has already seen "about 1,000 inquiries" through the CharterX website since the 5 July launch, although no bookings had taken place as of 11 July.

"We don't expect there will be a flight for another week or so," says the company, which had anticipated a lag time before the service would catch on.
