CAE has announced a series of simulator visual system sales, including deals for next-generation equipment now in development. The Canadian company's contract to supply Airbus with a MaxVue Plus system for A380 development includes an option for its next-generation Tropos system.

Montreal-based CAE will provide the European airliner manufacturer with a moveable visual system that can be used with roll-in/roll-out cockpits. The system features a five-channel image generator and collimated display.

CAE will also supply a MaxVue visual with collimated display to Xian Aircraft, to equip a simulator for the Chinese manufacturer's MA-60 regional turboprop. The device is being built by Beijing Aviation Simulation, which has previously produced simulators for the Xian Y-7.

A MaxVue visual has also been sold to Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration to upgrade the Swedish air force's Lockheed Martin C-130H full-flight simulator. The deal is worth C$3.5 million ($2.3 million). The upgrade will extend the life and improve the capability of the device, ready for training in the fourth quarter of next year.

CAE's next-generation Medallion X visual system has been selected to upgrade a US Army Boeing AH-64A combat mission simulator based at Storch Barracks in Illesheim, Germany. The $9 million contract includes the new visual system with sensor simulation capability, a new tactical threat environment and upgrading of the device's host computer and instructor station.

The upgraded simulator is to be ready for training in January 2003 and the contract includes options worth up to $22 million to upgrade six additional AH-64A simulators used by the US Army.

CAE, meanwhile, has announced a raft of commercial flight simulator orders totalling C$90 million. American Airlines has ordered a fifth Boeing 737-800 simulator for delivery in the second quarter of next year, and Southwest Airlines has bought a second 737-700 machine for delivery in the first quarter.

Lufthansa Flight Training Berlin has ordered anA320 simulator to be operational in August next year.

Japan Airlines has ordered two simulators, for the Boeing 767-300ER and 777-200ER, for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2002. CAE will also update an A320 simulator at SAS Flight Adademy, including installation of a MaxVue Plus visual.

CAE has won a Delta Air Lines contract to upgrade three simulators - two for the Boeing 757 and one for the 767-200.
