Cambodia Angkor Air (CAA) has signed a commercial pilot training agreement with Viet Flight Training (VFT).
The agreement will allow pilots to be trained by VFT at facilities in Vietnam and the United States, before they begin work at CAA as co-pilots. Vietnam will sponsor the programme with $3 million, the airline says.
Local media reports indicate that between 50 to 70 local pilots are expected to enroll into the 72-week course within the first year.
The carrier adds that it has been decades since a Cambodian carrier sent students for dedicated pilot training.
Cambodia Angkor Air is owned by Cambodia and Vietnam Airlines on a 51:49 ratio. Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database shows the airline operates four Airbus A321s and two ATR 72-500s.
