Canada is to seek World Trade Organisation (WTO) authorisation for sanctions on Brazil totalling C$4.9 billion ($3.3 million) over seven years. This follows a ruling that Brazil has not complied with demands that it withdraw reduced-interest "Proex" subsidies to Embraer buyers.
Rival Bombardier says Brazil has committed over $4.5 billion in Proex aid, reducing prices by between $2.5 million and $4.5 million, with half Embraer's orders "largely due" to the subsidy.
