The Boeing Canard Rotor Wing technical demonstrator is expected shortly to be given the official experimental designation X-50 by the Pentagon. The first of two subscale unmanned vehicles is scheduled to be rolled out of Boeing's Mesa, Arizona, facility in late May and fly later in the year. The programme, funded by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, is intended to prove the concept of converting between vertical rotor-borne take-off/hover/landing and wing-borne forward flight.
