Russia's federal transport inspectorate Rostransnadzor grounded regional carrier Kaliningradavia last week after a random safety inspection earlier this month revealed serious technical problems with the airline's two aircraft, a leased Boeing 737 and a TupolevTu-134, according to the Russian daily Vremya Novostei.

The airline has operated the 737 for a month and has never kept flight data recorder records. Flight data information printouts for the inspectorate revealed that on 16 of the 25 flights the aircraft had completed for Kaliningradavia, technical safety rules had been breached.

The Tu-134 had also been operated in breach of technical regulations, according to the inspectorate's manager, Aleksandr Neradko, with several components already life-expired.
