Airbus is to establish an engineering centre in China and will need to recruit around 200 engineers by 2008 to staff it.

To be located in the Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone of Beijing, adjacent to the offices of Airbus China, the facility will perform design work for the A350 programme.

It will operate as a joint venture with China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC II).

"China has a solid foundation in the aviation industry with a number of excellent professionals," says Philippe Delmas, Airbus executive vice-president, government relations, communications and external affairs.
