China Eastern Airlines has sold its 13 Boeing MD-82s to GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) as part of a deal to lease 10 Airbus A320s. GECAS has arranged to lease six of the MD-82s to Spanair and to sell four to US carrier Spirit Airlines, while the other three aircraft will be leased back to China Eastern. Eleven of the MD-82s were assembled in China by Shanghai Aviation Industrial. The Chinese airline took delivery of its first A320s on lease from GECAS last year, and will receive the rest over the next two years.
