Hainan Airlines plans to begin flights on the Beijing-Male-Johannesburg route.

It plans to operate the service twice a week, says the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), which has to approve the service.

Hainan will operate Airbus A340 or Boeing 767 aircraft on the route, adds the CAAC.

If it receives the go-ahead, Hainan will be the only carrier operating between Beijing and Male, and Male and Johannesburg, according to Innovata.
