Just weeks after delivering its first aircraft, Cirrus Design is looking at an uprated version of its newly certificated SR20.

With two aircraft delivered and a backlog exceeding 330, Cirrus says it is looking at installing a 225kW (300hp) Teledyne Continental IO-550 in the four-seater.

"We are beginning to look into this," Cirrus says. Company sources suggest a big engine would offer an aircraft with faster speeds than the SR20's 160kt (300km/h).

No timetable has been set for introduction of the new variant, but Cirrus engineers discussed the project at the Experimental Aircraft Association convention at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from 28 July-3 August.
