Integrators of multi-layered security systems are showing increasing interest in using mini unmanned air vehicles as a tool that will positively identify and "incriminate" threats before deadly force is used to stop them.
Israeli UAV manufacturers say that in recent months they have been approached by major integrators of security systems that defend critical installations and sites in different countries.
"They expressed interest in integrating mini UAVs in the multi-layered systems that normally consists of fences, optical and radar sensors and other systems," a source says.
The requirement is for a mini UAV that can be launched seconds after a threat is initially detected and that has the capability to loiter over the area where the threat was first detected by one of the ground sensors. "One very emphasised requirement is for a very good optical payload with high resolution," the source says.
The UAV manufacturers add that the progress made in the development of power sources for electrical motors that are used in the mini UAVs and the new very light payloads will enable the required integration.
