Bombardier is restarting its turbine conversion programme for operators of its Pratt and Whitney Canada 215T amphibian, around 20 years after the first conversion programme was launched. This follows an $85 million order for nine kits from operators in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. The upgrade features more powerful PW123AF turboprop engines as well as new structural components, electrical distribution system and fuel system. Seventeen 215s were converted in the late 1980s and have since flown over 70,000h, says Bombardier.
