COMPUTER SCIENCES (CSC) has won a $207 million US Federal Aviation Administration contract to produce, install and support operational software for the agency's new air-traffic-control (ATC) automation systems.

George Donohue, head of research and acquisition for the FAA says: "The contract enables us to begin moving key [ATC] programmes from prototypes to production." The en route software development and support (ERSDS) contract follows an initial ERSDS award.

The California-based company will now write operational software for future ATC systems, including display-system replacement; new ATC workstations; the control-tower computer network; and a prototype departure-sequencing system for tracking and planning aircraft departures.
