Czech Aircraft Works (CZAW) is planning a fivefold production ramp-up at its Kunovice-based site by the end of next year as demand for its light sport aircraft - the Mermaid amphibian, SportCruiser, and Parrot - soars to record levels. Chip Erwin, CZAW chief executive, says over the past 10 years the company has shipped 850 aircraft. "We expect to deliver 200 this year, up from an average of 95 to 115 aircraft over the last few years and 500 aircraft by the end of 2008." CZAW is producing more than three aircraft a week against a current backlog of over 300 orders and plans to increase the weekly output to five during the second quarter, Erwin says.
