The UK Hampshire police force has ordered a Britten-Norman Defender 4000 to replace its piston-engined BN2B Islander, which entered service in 1992. The aircraft, to be delivered by the end of the year, will be deployed on surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic tracking and intelligence gathering missions. Hampshire is the second police authority to acquire the Defender 4000. The Irish Police took the first aircraft in 1997.
