Italy and Egypt have signed a joint agreement to develop and launch a satellite, DesertSat, to preserve Egypt's agricultural and water resources, protect its cultural heritage, monitor coastal erosion and limit the transformation of the Nile Delta into desert. The Italian Space Agency and the Egyptian National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences have not set a firm schedule for the project.
