Stanley Hui is one of a small handful of executives in Hong Kong who can claim to have held senior positions at all three Hong Kong-based airlines - Cathay Pacific Airways, Air Hong Kong and Dragonair. Hui started a 20-year career with Cathay as a management trainee in 1975 and spent a number of years at overseas offices through the 1980s. After returning from Malaysia in 1986 he was appointed Manager, International Affairs at Cathay's head office. In 1990 he was seconded to Dragonair as General Manager, Planning and International Affairs, and between 1992 and 1994 Hui was Chief Representative in Beijing for Swire, Cathay's main shareholder. In 1994, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Air Hong Kong, which is 75%-owned by Cathay. It was his last job for Cathay as he was named Dragonair's chief executive in February 1997, 10 months after Cathay and Swire reduced their Dragonair holdings. Hui was born in 1950 and is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Married with two children, he has a keen interest in golf.
