Dubai Aerospace Enterprise has cancelled its remaining 35 Boeing 737s on order, eliminating its entire narrowbody backlog, Boeing confirms. The airframer's orders and delivery page, updated 14 July, identified 35 737 cancellations as belonging to an undisclosed customer, which Boeing now says are attributed to the shaky Dubai-based lessor.
DAE cancelled 45 Airbus aircraft, including 11 A350s and 34 A320s, in June and was said to be contemplating abandoning its outstanding 737 orders.
According to Boeing's website, DAE still holds unfilled orders for six 777 freighters and 15 747-8Fs.
The lessor also abandoned an order for 32 737s in February.
In August 2010, DAE cancelled a total of 50 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, including 7 A350s, 18 A320s, 10 777s and 15 787s.
The cancellation wipes out the lessor's 737 backlog, which originally stood at 70, ordered in November 2007 as part of a 200 aircraft, $27.2 billion buying spree from Boeing and Airbus.
Only three of the seventy aircraft were delivered, all in 2010 and all 737-800s.
