Dietrich Russell, former head of EADS’s aeronautics division, has died aged 64. The company says Russell “played a major role in the integration of the European aerospace and defence industry”. Russell served as chief operating officer of Airbus from 1998 to 2000, having joined Daimler-Benz Aerospace in 1995. EADS co-chief executives Tom Enders and Noël Forgeard say: “Dietrich Russell was deeply involved in, and one of the main drivers of, our industry’s integration across Europe, especially in the development of EADS. Under his leadership, the aeronautics division contributed significantly to our business success.”
