AgustaWestland has sold its first GrandNew light twin helicopter into the Turkish market with an order from business aviation operator Genel Havacilik.

The aircraft, which will be delivered by June, will be used for VIP transport missions.

Emilio Dalmasso, senior vice-president commercial business unit, AgustaWestland, said: "The entrance of the GrandNew in this relevant market provides clear evidence of the competitiveness of our product range which has found a rapidly increasing success in Turkey."

Ali Sulyak, chief executive of Genel Havacilik, said the aircraft's capability in hot and high conditions was a major factor in its choice. "This type will allow us to perform a leap forward to enhance our operations."

More than 30 AgustaWestland commercial helicopters of different types have been ordered in Turkey, mainly performing executive transport, air tours and emergency medical service missions.

Meanwhile, AgustaWestland said it has seen a "progressive recovery" of the global business aviation rotorcraft market. It has a 70% share of the light twin VIP transport sector, it said.

Investment recently has gone into ensuring the coverage of its support network, it said. "It's not just about the platform, but about providing our customers with the capability of flying it as much as possible.
