Aviation Partners has successfully applied to the US Federal Aviation Administration for an operational supplement allowing non-ETOPS operation of its winglets on the Hawker 800/800SP midsized business jet.

The application was made in response to a request from Aviation Partners' long-time customer AirMed International, which operates two 800SPs in an air ambulance role.

With the granting of the operational supplement, 800SPs equipped with Aviation Partners' blended winglets are now capable of Part 135 operations between the US mainland and Hawaii, which had, says the company, "effectively ended" for the type when ETOPS rules were tightened in 2008.

Proving flights of an AirMed Hawker 800SP have demonstrated that blended winglets enable aircraft to reach a suitable airport within 180min of an engine shutdown, says Aviation Partners.
