Vowing to take the in-flight experience "to the next level", Embraer has picked Honeywell's latest-generation Ovation Select cabin management system for its new family of Legacy 450/500 jets.

The modular, lightweight and flexible cabin management system can control "everything in the entire cabin" from the video and audio entertainment to the lights, the heat and the shades, said Honeywell senior manager technical sales Bill Rowell. Various sizes of touchscreen displays are available, but "you can also control the system remotely with a proprietary remote control or an application that could run on your iPad", said Rowell.

The system is connectivity pipe agnostic in that it can talk to Iridium and Inmarsat satellites, but will be able to support Ku- and ultimately Ka-band satellite pipes if operators show interest.

"The second generation Ovation Select digital cabin system delivers unprecedented connectivity to meet the expectations and needs of today's business passengers," said Rob Wilson, president of Honeywell Business and General Aviation. "Moreover, it is scalable to satisfy the growing bandwidth demands of tomorrow's high-tech communication devices."

The system's "seamless connectivity and high-definition capabilities perfectly complement our Legacy 450/500 aircraft to create the optimal onboard passenger experience", said Mauricio Almeida, vice-president, programme - executive jets at Embraer.
