Israeli flag carrier El Al and Delta Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding to codeshare on the New York to Tel-Aviv route. The codeshare will allow Delta to offer its passengers a flight to Tel Aviv, via New York JFK on services operated by El Al.

The carriers began negotiating in May, after American Airlines withdrew from codeshare talks with El Al, announcing it intended to start its own US/Israel services.

El Al sources say that the Delta deal was not a response to American Airlines' and expressed hope that American, after subsequently suspending its plan to fly to Israel, will return to the negotiating table to complete a codeshare agreement with El Al on the Chicago-Tel-Aviv route.
