Embraer has commenced production of its Legacy 450 and 500 aircraft at its Melbourne, Florida factory.
Legacy production has doubled the size of the company’s Melbourne campus to 449,000 square feet, says Embraer.
The location already produces the airframer's Phenom 100 and 300 light corporate jets. Embraer says its Melbourne factory has produced “over 170 Phenom Jets valued at $1 billion” since opening in 2011.
Expansion of the campus includes four new buildings: an assembly hangar, a paint facility, a completion centre, a flight preparation facility, and a new delivery centre. In the years to 2020, it will number its personnel at the location to 1,200.
