Juneyao Airlines has picked the General Electric GEnx-1B engines to power its 10 Boeing 787-9s on order.
In a statement, GE Aviation says the $1.4 billion deal includes a 15-year overhaul agreement for the time and material to repair and overhaul these engines. The signing was witnessed by US president Donald Trump and China's president Xi Jinping in Beijing.
The aircraft will be delivered from 2018. Juneyao will use the 787s, its first widebodies, on long-haul services to the US, says GE.
"The majority of our fleet is powered by CFM56 engines," says Juneyao chairman Wang Junjin. "We believe that GEnx engines will help us continue the profitability on our newly expanded international routes."
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that the Chinese carrier has five 787-9s on order, and another five of the type on option. Three of the aircraft are scheduled to be delivered in 2018, and the other two in 2019.
Juneyao currently operates a fleet of 66 Airbus A320 family aircraft, largely on domestic services within China. It also serves Japan, Philippines, and Thailand.
