Qatar Airways has selected GE Aviation GEnx engines to power 30 on-order Boeing 787-9s and signed engine maintenance deals with GE.
The power-by-the-hour deals under GE's TrueChoice service cover both the GEnx on Qatar's incoming 787-9s and the GE9X engines that will power its 60 on-order 777X aircraft, says Qatar.
The engine deals between Qatar and GE have a combined value of more than $5 billion, Qatar says.
Boeing will deliver the 787-9s to Qatar between August and the end of 2021, and hand over the 777X between 2020 and 2028, according to Cirium's Fleets Analyzer.
Qatar's 777X order includes 50 777-9s and 10 777-8s, data shows.
The Doha-based airline already operates 30 GEnx-powered 787-9s and 72 GE90-powered 777s, Fleets Analyzer shows.
