Connexion by Boeing has selected Eutelsat to provide satellite transponder capacity for its mobile broadband communications service over Asia and Europe. The company will lease Ku-band capacity on the European operator's Sesat satellite, with coverage ranging from the eastern Atlantic to central Asia.

The Boeing business unit is negotiating transponder leases after receiving International Telecommunications Union approval to use the 14-14.5GHz frequency band for a global aeronautical mobile satellite service. Loral's Telstar 6 satellite will provide coverage over North America, and Connexion is negotiating leases covering the north Atlantic and east Asia.

Lufthansa and SAS long-haul fleets will get the two-way service from early next year, and Japan Airlines plans to follow suit.
