Posada exits Avianca

Now that Brazil's Synergy group has completed its purchase of a 75% stake in Avianca following its exit from Chapter 11, Juan Emilio Posada is leaving his post as Avianca's president to head Synergy Aerospace, a new division of the parent company.

His replacement at Avianca is economist Fabio Villegas, head of Colombia's national association of financial institutions and a former interior minister of Colombia.

From March, Posada becomes chief corporate officer of Synergy Aerospace, a holding company formed to oversee operations at Avianca, OceanAir in Brazil, VIP in Ecuador, and startup Wayra Peru. The company will also include helicopter operations and aircraft maintenance services that are already part of the Synergy group.

The new post should allow Posada to merge his earlier background in international banking and finance with his more recent experience in aviation.

Entrepreneur German Efromovich, Synergy's majority owner, foresees growth for the new Aerospace division. He has asked Posada to integrate operation of the various airlines as much as possible. Ultimately, Efromovich would like to see reciprocal codeshares between them on a combined route network that centers on Bogota as a hub.
