Rockwell Collins has received US Federal Aviation Administration certification for its HGS-6605 head-up guidance system used as a head-up display for the Bombardier Challenger 605 business jet.

The HGS-6605 - which includes advanced active-matrix liquid crystal display technology - presents critical flight information in the pilot's forward field of view, says Rockwell Collins. Aircraft flightpath and attitude symbols overlay the outside scene and provide the benefits of enhanced situational awareness, improved energy management and increased touchdown precision.

Additional features include wide head-up display field-of-view (42° horizontal x 30° vertical) and "exceptional" brightness and contrast. The system also has enhanced vision system capability; crosswind and windshear indications to enable more accurate flightpath control while keeping pilots' attention focused outside the windscreen; an inertial flightpath vector that provides instantaneous indication of the aircraft's path; and intuitive unusual attitude recovery and terrain collision avoidance system symbology.

Synthetic vision system capability is also included.
