The US Federal Aviation Administration has temporarily deployed two extra control towers plus an additional ASR-9 surveillance radar to improve air traffic control during the Salt Lake City Olympic Games. Other infrastructure improvements include commissioning a second Category IIIB instrument landing system at Salt Lake City, on the recently completed second parallel runways. Reactive security is being provided by US Air Force Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters on combat air patrol, supported by aerial refuelling tankers and airborne warning and control Boeing E-3s.
