Engine alliance IAE announced orders worth around $1.38 billion for its V2500 powerplants at Farnborough.
The largest of the orders – worth $812 million – is with China’s Shenzen Airlines for V2500 engines to power 28 Airbus A320-family aircraft. The company has backed-up the order with a long-term V2500Select aftersales agreement.
Shenzhen Airlines has operated A320 family airliners before, but this is the first time it has selected the V2500.
Chipping in with an order for $400m worth of V2500 SelectOnes is Aviation Capital Group. The leasing company has ordered a further 25 Airbus A320s to join the 49 IAE-powered aircraft it currently owns.
This is the first time that ACG has signed contracts directly for the SelectOne-specification engines that feature IAE’s latest technology for improvements in both fuel efficiency and maintenance costs.
Shanghai Airlines’ contract with IAE is for V2500 engines to power ten Airbus A321s in a deal worth $170-million. With this order, Shanghai Airlines becomes the fourth new V2500-A5 customer in China over the past 16 months. IAE holds an 80% market share on all A321s in service in China, “driven by the fact that it claims the lowest fuel burn, lowest noise and lowest emissions of any engine on this aircraft”, says Beatty.
Finally, Vietnam Airlines has chosen V2500s to power an extra seven Airbus A321s that it is leasing from ILFC and AerCap. The airline already operates 12 IAE-powered aircraft.
