SilkAir, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has selected Telair’s Sliding Carpet Loading System for its new Airbus A319 and A320 fleet. The system will be installed by Airbus as buyer-furnished equipment (BFE) before delivery.
“The order is of paramount importance in Asia where labour rates are cheap, meaning that normally loading and unloading freight and baggage is accelerated by putting on more manpower,” says Anders Helmner, president of Telair International AB, based in Lund, Sweden.
More than 60 carriers worldwide use the Telair Sliding Carpet Loading System, and more than 2,600 sets have been sold. The system consists of a moving floor belt and attached bulkhead, requiring only one onboard operator to load and unload baggage and cargo from a single, ergonomically safe position at the cargo bay door.
“Facts and statistics have proven that our Sliding Carpet Loading System operates much more efficiently and cuts the turnaround time. Of more importance, the system protects the cargo compartment floor panels and sidewall liners from damage, helping to preserve the operator’s greatest investment,” adds Helmner.
