Italy's Avio has strengthened its links with aeroengine manufacturers via new deals struck at the show, under which it gains firmer footholds in the Powerjet SaM146, General Electric GE90, and Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150 programmes.
Russian manufacturer NPO Saturn has awarded Avio a contract to supply two transmission components for the SaM146 engine powering the Sukhoi Superjet 100. Under a contract it values in excess of €13 million ($16.8 million), Avio will provide an inlet gearbox and radial drive shaft for the engine, which is produced by Powerjet, a consortium comprising NPO Saturn and French manufacturer Snecma.
The Italian company already designs and manufactures the gear train of the engine's accessory gearbox and the combustion chamber, and estimates its share of the programme at 10%. The SaM146 engine has been certificated after more than 7,000 flight-hours and is ready for service entry, scheduled to take place by the end of the year.
Avio has also increased its participation in the GE90 programme from 7% to 8.2%, via expansion of its manufacturing responsibility beyond the accessory drive train and low-pressure turbine to include other engine turbine components.
More than 1,000 GE90s have been fielded - by 20-plus customers - in the life of the engine programme.
Alongside its GE90 involvement Avio has a 20% share of the GEnx, which powers the Boeing 787.
Pratt & Whitney Canada, meanwhile, has agreed to extend Avio's contract to provide the power transmission for the PW150 engine equipping the Bombardier Q400-A regional aircraft. A deal struck at the show foresees continuation of an arrangement that had been due to expire in 2016.
Pratt & Whitney Canada has delivered a total of more than 700 PW150 engines, to 30-plus airlines. The 5,000shp (3,730kW) PW150, the most powerful in the PW100 family, has accumulated 4.5 million flight hours.
