Liebherr-Aerospace, based in Lindenberg, Germany, has landed on its feet with a contract to design, supply and service the landing gear on the new Chinese Comac C919 single-aisle passenger jet.
The deal involves the creation of a joint venture with AVIC Landing-gear Advanced Manufacturing in Hunan province.
It will build the main and nose landing gear systems, the extension and retraction systems, nose wheel steering system as well as the position and warning system.
Liebherr's French sister operation in Toulouse, France is already involved with the C919, seen as a challenger to the Airbus/Boeing duopoly, and has developed and supplied the air management system for the jet.
Liebherr adds: "The selection of Liebherr-Aerospace [to produce the landing gear] is proof of our competence as a supplier of competitive, future-orientated landing gear within this field.
"Participating in this programme also gives us the opportunity to further broaden our expertise in this field."
