Mubadala Aerospace yesterday signed deals with Goodrich and Honeywell to expand its maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities in landing gear, avionics and other mechanical components.
The Goodrich deal will put together a joint venture aimed at establishing the Middle East's first dedicated landing gear facility, fully operational by 2012 and based in the city of Al Ain, in Mubadala's home base of Abu Dhabi.
The company will initially support Airbus and Boeing aircraft, including A380s and 777s, with plans to expand into other commercial types and military markets.
Other Mubadala companies in Al Ain include its high-end composites manufacturing facility - Strata - and Ammroc, the military MRO centre formed as a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) and Sikorsky.
From Honeywell, both ADAT and Mubadala's SR Technics subsidiary will get special rights and licences as authorised service providers for Honeywell mechanical components and avionics on various in-service types and the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, when they come into service.
Honeywell will provide materials, training and technical support. The firms already co-operate, with SR Technics supporting Honeywell mechanical components and ADAT supporting auxiliary power units.
