New leasing company Avolon is ordering 12 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, becoming a new customer for the airframer.
Disclosing the order at the Farnborough Air Show, Avolon said the jets would be delivered over 2012-14.
Avolon says the order is an "extremely important milestone" for the newly-created company and that it believes it has "timed the order extremely well".
All 737-800s are fitted with CFM International CFM56 engines.
