The USAF has awarded Raytheon a contract for four radar pods to be carried underwing by the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper UAV.
The pods will be equipped with synthetic aperture radar and the ability to identify ground targets in all conditions. The system will be used to assist USAF intelligence surveillance and reconnaisance missions.
"With increased resolution, range and coverage capabilities, the dismount detection radar offfers persistent radar detection to find and track potential threats to warfighters, including vehicles and individuals in near real-time, day and night," says Raytheon.
