Boeing's F/A-18 Super Hornet production line will keep humming through 2015, at the same time saving the Pentagon about half a billion dollars, said Boeing vice-president and general manager of global strike systems Shelley Lavender. Details on the third multi-year procurement deal with the US government will be definitised in September, she said at the show.
"We are very pleased to be able to offer another multi-year procurement to our customer because that does provide significant value compared to a single-year buy," she says.
Super Hornets are expected to be with the US fleet out to 2030 and have also been proposed in India's India's Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) competition and Greece's Next-Generation Fighter Program.
