Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT), Taiwan's largest and most profitable domestic airline, will deploy its recently ordered Boeing 757-200s, mainly on domestic trunk routes.

The airline placed an order in early November for five 757-200s, with options on a further five (Flight International, 11-18 November). An airline source says that FAT is close to finalising an order for two additional Boeing MD-83s which, with the 757s, are part of a major expansion programme.

FAT's fleet includes seven MD-82s, two MD-83s, two Boeing 737-200s, and three 757-200s.

The first two 757s will arrive in late 1998, and the remaining 757s, to be delivered at a rate of two a year, will replace 737s on the busy domestic routes between Taipei, Kaohsiung and Tainan. FAT flies 30 round trips a day between Taipei and Kaohsiung, and has a 33% share of the domestic market.
