A Memorandum of Intent (MOI) has been signed at Le Bourget by GE Engine Services and EVA Airways to explore the formation of an engine overhaul and maintenance joint venture company at EVA's site in Taiwan.

The partnership being pursued will provide engine overhaul services for EVA and other airlines.

EVA will be the majority owner, but both companies will benefit from the combined technologies and capabilities.

Bill Vareschi, president of GE Engine Services, says: "This MOI furthers the long-standing relationship between GE and EVA.

"By combining the considerable technical capabilities of GE and EVA in engine maintenance and overhaul, this joint venture company will provide state of the art engine services capability."

Frank Hsu, vice-chairman at EVA Airways, says: "GE and EVA have enjoyed a very successful relationship and we believe this MOI will further build upon it."
