A Boeing Delta II booster was launched from Cape Canaveral on 18 May carrying the 635kg (1,400lb) US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Geosynchronous Lightweight Technology Experiment (GeoLITE) satellite. The $130 million TRW-built GeoLITE carries a laser communications experiment and UHF transponders to assess the technology's potential.
